In April 2013, we announced that Spaceway had supplied equipment to the Ice Team for The Coldest Journey, a 2,000-mile winter expedition to cross the Antarctic, led by Sir Ranulph Fiennes.

Sadly, the crossing was abandoned due to severe weather conditions and Sir Ranulph Fiennes had to be evacuated with frostbite. However, the rest of the team remained in Antarctica to successfully complete the all important planned scientific research programme.

The great news is that the Ice Team, and their equipment, are now safely home. Though they were not able to complete the winter crossing, the Expedition has, nevertheless, achieved some amazing successes that everyone is really proud of.

At Spaceway, we are all delighted that our sponsorship has helped to make this possible.

The science research programme has been highly successful in gathering data and specimens. The collated science report will be released in approximately 18 months time.

The educational programme produced a wide range of material for use in schools that include subjects such as geography, science, history and personal development.

Lastly, for their charity Seeing is Believing, the team has raised US$2.5 million to date. Just US$25 saves the sight of a single child or adult, making a huge difference to the quality of life for a great many families.

In a joint statement, the team leaders Tony Medniuk (Chairman of Expedition), Sir Ranulph Fiennes (Expedition Leader – Ice) and Anton Bowring (Expedition Leader – Marine) said:

“Spaceway’s sponsorship has been key to our Antarctic endeavour and we cannot thank you enough for joining with us in taking on this last great polar challenge. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work with you and your team.”
