This Coronovirus outbreak is having a tragic impact on those directly affected by the deaths, and the subsequent lock-down is hitting the economy very hard. However there are just a few lights emerging at the end of the tunnel.
Death rates appear to be peaking, markets bottoming out and it seems potential plans to come out of the lock-down are being discussed.
Spaceway, like most other companies, have seen a real slow down in site activity over the past 6 weeks. On a more positive note, though, some clients site works have continued regardless.
Whilst everything to do with planes, cars, restaurants and pubs is being hit hard, it does appear that food retailers, specialist electronics manufacturers and medical supplies specialists are trying to keep up with demand.
One Spaceway construction site in Portsmouth for a large electronics manufacturer has continued to be fitted out with new offices, workshops and production lines by the Spaceway construction team, providing essential works for the client to meet his customers orders and also keeping a number of Spaceway specialist fitting teams busy and working.
The client has a large and expanding order book for electronics and control equipment, some of which are used in the new style oxygen regulators being adopted by the NHS.
A large cosmetics manufacturer in Hampshire has dedicated part of its production capacity to the manufacture, packaging and distribution of hand sanitizers for the NHS which is commendable in itself. On this site, Spaceway have been constructing a series of clean-room production spaces under brand new heavy duty mezzanine floors which house all the specialist plant overhead, and some much needed large storage spaces.
Again this has kept dozens of Spaceway workers and contractors working throughout the lockdown.
Spaceway have been able to continue these projects thanks to the positive ‘can do’ attitude of their clients, site workers, project management team and the hard work of the supply chain keeping construction materials flowing to the sites.
All of these works are being continued whilst following the very strict social distancing government guidelines.
It is hoped that this glimmer of hope continues forward and we all can get back to work full steam ahead sooner rather than later.
