Draper Tools

Draper Tools is a well-established and respected tool manufacturer and distributor, serving customers across the UK and beyond. In 2009, the company built a state-of-the-art warehouse facility in North Baddesley to support their continued growth, relocating from their former site in Chandlers Ford.

With ongoing success and expansion, Draper embarked on a major project to introduce a new automated picking and packing system to streamline operations and increase efficiency. To achieve this, additional high-load floor space was required — and Spaceway were brought in to deliver the solution.

The Challenge

The project required the design and installation of a two-tier, heavy-duty mezzanine floor, capable of supporting not only the automation system but also the associated materials handling machinery.

Key challenges included:

  • Load capacity: The mezzanine needed to be engineered to withstand the significant weight and dynamic forces of automation equipment.
  • Scale: At 5,100 ft², the mezzanine was a substantial addition to the facility.
  • Business continuity: Draper needed to continue operations during the installation, meaning careful planning and phasing were essential.

The Solution

Spaceway designed and installed a robust mezzanine structure tailored to Draper’s operational requirements. Our engineering team accounted for the heavy loads imposed by both the automated systems and the machinery operating on the platform, ensuring full compliance with safety and building regulations.
