Tell us a little bit about yourself, how you came to work for Spaceway and your role
I’m Emily, I’m 35 years old with 2 teenage children. I’ve always been creative and while at school, I developed a keen interest in design. I always said I wanted to study automotive design at Oxford Brookes and become a Formula 1 designer. I was car mad. That then developed into a love for general design, and I went on to study graphic design, fine art and photography at A level. I then moved out into my own place and that’s where my love for interior design really came in. I had my children young so put my career ambitions on hold and went to study accounting. It was after a few years of accounting I realised I needed a creative outlet. At age 27 with 2 young children, I took the plunge and obtained a bachelor of arts degree with honours in interior design. The rest is history!
What do you enjoy the most in your role as an Interior Designer at Spaceway?
I absolutely love creating 3D visuals for clients to visualise their potential new space. I enjoy bringing designs to life and being a complete 3D software nerd!
How would you say the world of interior design has changed over recent years?
Interior design has changed a lot since the covid pandemic. With changes in lifestyle, technology and environmental awareness. An emphasis on wellbeing, biophilia and individual personalised design. With more people working from home there’s a demand for multi-functional spaces serving as offices, home gyms and relaxation areas. There has been a huge shift in technology where 3D software is now more advanced than ever, and the use of AI has been a controversial topic.
What challenges and developments do you foresee in the world of interior design in the near future?
Adapting to AI presents as both opportunities and threats so this will be interesting to navigate. Another challenge will definitely be the uncertainty of material costs.
A big development I think is that we are leaning back towards sustainable long lasting thoughtful craftmanship. This means better quality design and kinder to the planet. A focus on more timeless, personalised design is making our workspaces feel more like home.
What would you say are the most common issues you find businesses come to you with, and how do you go about solving them?
The most common problem clients come to us with is needing more space and a more streamlined production space. Of course, our bread & butter solution is to install a mezzanine floor to double the space, coupled with storage solutions, production areas and office fit outs.
What sets Spaceway apart from the competition when looking to redesign and optimise your workplace?
We have a full turnkey solution. When coming to Spaceway you know you will be able to maximise your space as well as fit out your whole building. Every element is taken care of. We manage the project from start to finish. When re-designing, we provide 3D visuals to give our clients an insight into their potential finished space.
