December 20, 2021New CDM – which stands for Construction (Design & Management) – 2015 regulations came into play earlier this month, which ensures that no one is harmed during work, buildings are safe to use and that customers get good value.
The biggest changes to the regulations are as follows:
• There will no longer by a CDM co-ordinator (CDM-C) as this appointment is being replaced by the principal designer.
• The CDM-C’s duties have been passed to both the principal designer and the client.
• Notification (more than 30 days) no longer triggers appointments and duties. These are triggered by there being more than one contractor employed on the project.
To conform to these changes, Spaceway has maintained the services of Principal Safety to ensure we meet all our duties under the new regulations.
So what do our customers need to do? We understand you’re probably not experts in construction work, but although you’re not expected to actively manage or supervise the work yourself you do have a big influence over the way the work is carried out.
Whatever the size of your project, you will decide which designer and contractor will carry out the work and how much money, time and resource is available. Your decisions will have an impact on the health, safety and welfare of workers and others affected by the work.
The new CDM regulations are not about creating unnecessary and unhelpful processes and paperwork – it will help you choose the right team and help them to work together to ensure health and safety. Effective planning will also help ensure your work is well managed, with fewer unexpected costs and problems.
