Mezzanine floor and office fit out specialists Spaceway have built up a solid reputation on the Isle of Wight for building high quality office and warehouse space solutions.

Isle of Wight firm, Vikoma were expanding fast on the back of a run of major project successes in the UK and abroad for their innovative Oil Spill Recovery product ranges. So when they found a building which was the perfect size and in the right location they did not hesitate to embark on an extensive refit and refurbishment project to get the new premises up and running.

Once Vikoma had decided on how the building was going to work for them they went out to tender for the fit out works looking for a design and build specialist who could fit out there new industrial building with offices that they could be proud of.

Spaceway offered excellent advice and competitive pricing from very early in the tender process and made a point of spending time with the Vikoma project team to really understand Vikoma’s specific requirements.

The very first exercise for Spaceway was to provide a detailed spaceplan for Vikoma. This exercise established very quickly that space  in the offices was going to be at a premium, as the production and storage space was already all planned out and claimed.

So Spaceway designed a multi tiered mezzanine solution providing office space at three different levels that would make the very best use of every cubic meter of available space in the new building.

All three floors of the mezzanine structure would be serviced by a main central feature starcase with glass ballustrades and a passenger lift which complied with the latest Part M of Building Regulations for disabled access.

The mezzanine was then enclosed with a combination of fire rated partitions and ceilings including a glass attrium feature with views across the River Medina in Cowes.

Once the main structure was in place a series of toilets, washrooms, cable risers were designed to provide services to all parts of the offices.

Air conditioning, ventilation, external windows were fitted ready for glazed partitioning, doors, and office furniture to be installed.

Once the mains electric had been switched on the Spaceway project management team provided as built plans, testing and commissioning for everything that had been installed.

However I am extremely proud of how our staff and contractors stuck to the task in very challanging conditions and finished the project to a very high standard’.
