About the project
The John Lewis Partnership is an employee-owned UK company that operates John Lewis department stores, Waitrose supermarkets and other services. The John Lewis Distribution Centre is centred at Magna Park, a large new distribution site on the part of Wavendon civil parish that is east of the A421 an in the ‘Eastern Expansion Area’, an element of the expansion plans for Milton Keynes. Spaceway have been working on projects at Magna Park for a number of years.
John Lewis required a modern, clean and smart design for new communications pods. These are enclosed office-type looking pods that are sited around their two buildings that take up over 1.2million square feet. These are areas that John Lewis will have team meetings, carry out shift changeovers and provide training for each department.
Project summary
After several project meetings with John Lewis, our designs were finalised and agreed. There are now a number of pods that have been installed and we are also building and installing more pods presently.
We developed plans closely with John Lewis; the pods are designed with a double skin steel partitioning system with full height glazing around the perimeter, ensuring a bright and vibrant atmosphere. The roofs were designed specifically with a parapet above, to hide all air-handling units that were to be sited on top. The pods were painted in a bespoke colour.
The benefits of our installed pods design created a nice environment for team meetings, shift changeovers and training areas. These pods set a high standard of quality working rooms within the John Lewis Partnership’s working environments.
