MEZZANINE FLOORS – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Below are the Top 10 questions clients ask us when considering materials handling, access and storage solutions:

1. What are the size restrictions for a mezzanine floor?
   Building regulations do not limit the size, shape or height restrictions of mezzanine floors and all Spaceway’s FlooriTall mezzanine floors can be supplied as multiple tiers. FlooriTall mezzanine floors are custom built to suit customer and site requirements.


2. How long does it take from order to completion?
   The normal project timetable is:
   
   Week 1 - detailed site survey
   Week 2 – application design and installation procedures
   Week 3 – client approval of design and installation procedures
   Week 4 – steel manufacture
   Week 5 – mezzanine installation


3. Do I need to organise local authority approval?
   No, Spaceway will take complete responsibility for all building control and fire regulation approval.


4. Is it possible to obtain design approval before I commit to placing an order?
   Yes. However if you take this route Spaceway will require a purchase order for design, drawing and calculations to submit to the local authority. The process normally takes around 2 week and usually costs around £1,000.


5. Am I able to change the design at any stage?
   Design modification can be introduced during the first two weeks. However, changes may result in additional delay and costs once structural steelwork is completed.


6. Do I need to arrange the floor installation?
   Spaceway always recommends that installation is undertaken by its own fully accredited and trained mezzanine floor installation teams, but clients do have the option of installing themselves.


7. What happens if there is an installation issue on site?
   Spaceway appoints a project manager who has full responsibility for managing the installation from beginning to end. Our project manager is the first point of contact for the client and will address any concerns.


8. I am undertaking a feasibility study for utilising a mezzanine floor as part of a development project. Is it possible to provide guideline costs?
   Costs depend on the size, loading and specification of the mezzanine. Spaceway is able to provide fast track budgetary quotations for feasibility studies.


9. Is Spaceway able to install stairways and other add-ons?
   Spaceway is able to undertake the complete installation including flooring, stairways, handrails, pallet gates, cat ladders and wear plates.


10. How do I prepare for the installation?
    Ensure that clear and unrestricted access is provided together with utilities and servces.
