The Challenge

Faced with the conundrum of how to accommodate 272 storage rooms within an area of just 550 square metres for Allstore, the Spaceway Group has worked with the company to produce StackiTall, an innovative solution for maximising storage space for archive boxes and self-storage. Finding that the storage industry had no archive storage system suitable for maximising small areas, Allstore’s Managing Director, David Stephenson turned to the Spaceway Group to help him develop a solution.

Spaceway's Approach

StackiTall allows for a greater number of mobile storage units to be accommodated in a confined area through a unique system that enables the units to be pulled forward and back rather than the normal left to right. This allows easy access to boxes and enables additional units to be installed, as space is no longer needed for units to be pushed along to make way for access. The StackiTall system uses a welded chassis to ensure long-term durability. Grouted, levelled floor tracks take into account uneven floor surfaces and floor infill and ramped access points ensure personnel can operate the system efficiently whilst complying with all Health & Safety issues. Additional safety measures include integral stops on the tracks and an anti-tilt device for operator protection. Each unit is fitted with special decorative end uprights to improve aesthetics and to contain the locking mechanism.

The Challenge

When Selden Masts bought a competitor firm the opportunity arose to buy an office block next to the former firm’s site.

Spaceway South completely refurbished the office accommodation, enabling the smooth relocation to the site of all 48 staff.

Spaceway's Approach

The four-month project involved the phased implementation of a refurbishment programme involving offices, stores and production areas. A specialist fork lift truck was provided to solve the unusual storage challenge presented by the manufacture of masts.

In addition to the racking systems, a mezzanine floor was provided for storage, office furniture was supplied, as was carpeting and ‘Komfort’ partitioning systems during the transformation of the office accommodation.

“Our main priority from the outset was to ensure that our

new market position was augmented by the full integration of

both companies into a single entity.

“At the heart of this was ensuring that our premises were

configured in a way which supported our drive for the best

possible productivity - and in Spaceway we found a company

with the resources to run the project from start to finish.”

The Challenge

When the one of the UK’s leading retailers White Stuff wanted to plan the fitout of their new distribution centre, they called upon Spaceway to help look at their three short listed potentialnew warehouses and varying designs for each one so they could decide on which one would benefit them the most and also allow for future expansion.

Once the site was decided Spaceway worked closely with White Stuff  in planning the layout and operation to ensure the new facility provided them with exactly what they needed. Also a crucial factor within the design was to ensure that their existing storage equipment could be incorporated.

The project had to be fitted out in a very tight time frame whilst allowing a smooth transition from their existing to there new site to happen during the project.

Spaceway's Approach

To meet the client’s expectations and timescales Spaceway worked closely with the clients own personnel to develop the plans and then to ensure that they wre carried out on time and to budget.

The project started with the installation of a 15,000 square foot mezzanine floor to create the high density picking area, to comply with currect regulations fire porotected stairwells were installed around 50% of the staircases and a sprinkler system above and below. Once this element was completed Spaceway installed new longspan racking above the floor which enabled White Stuff to move their stock from their existing site to the new, the existing longspan was then relocated to the new site.

The next phase was to install the new high bay pallet racking so that their stock could be moved accross to clear the existing pallet racking so that this could then be relocated. The final layout allowed a storage capacitry of in excess off 500 pallet spaces with room for expansion.

The whole preoject was completed on time and to budget.

The Challenge

When multi-million pound Internet based sports equipment company, Wiggle, needed additional storage capacity to cater for its ever-expanding order book, it turned to the Romsey based Spaceway Group. Won against stiff competition against other companies, Wiggle had previously worked with Spaceway and knew its reputation for innovative designs, fast response times and attention to detail.

Spaceway's Approach

To kick off the project, Spaceway’s design team set about creating an innovative design that would enable it to provide both storage and a picking area. The design, based on using a Linpac pallet racking system, enables Wiggle to store around 500 pallets with forklift access and in addition accommodates a pedestrian picking area above. Pallets are stored on beam levels up to a height of six metres with the end frames rising to over eight metres. Walkways have been installed at six metres high with lighting underneath so that a forklift truck can operate safely. Spaceway has also decked out the beam levels for the storage of large boxes, which can be hand picked and accessed easily and quickly at any time.
